BIP Investment Partners was founded in April 2000 under the name BGL Investment Partners as a joint initiative of Banque Générale du Luxembourg (BGL, previously Fortis Banque Luxembourg) – and several private investors. Associated with a capital increase through an Initial Public Offering, BIP allows other institutions and private investors to participate in the venture.
The investment company focuses on innovative companies that have the potential to become dominant technology platform providers in major industries. BIP is shareholder of SES (Astra), invested in mobile operator VoxMobile that in the meantime is integrated in France Telecom and was one of the first investors in Skype. To that end, BIP Investment Partners has maintained its clear focus and has a successful history in funding and supporting winning technologies and business models.
